Project Details:

Silverstone has been synonymous with motor racing since the mid-20th century and it is now one of the most famous motor sport venues in the world. However, the current site has a much older story to tell and its place in history was established some 5,000 years ago. The project will realise the creation of a new build heritage hub to house the unique British Racing Drivers Club collection and archive as well as a temporary gallery for specialist loan exhibitions. The project includes a site wide heritage trail with full interpretation of the 5,000 years history of the site. The extensive activities programme will include public engagement events, volunteering opportunities, formal and informal education programmes, archiving and cataloguing of the collection, oral history projects and a community archaeology project with the University of Leicester, enhanced media development, apprenticeships and local partnering.

CM, working with Mather & Co, were appointed as Project and Cost Managers to produce and subsequently secure award for both the pre-application and Round One submission.

A key aspect of this project is not only the wider public interest but also the significant boost to the local community with the creation of jobs, an extensive community activity programme and significant volunteering opportunities (including training).
